V J Day

Celebrations were rampant all over the base and in town. The merchants in town offered all kinds of sales exclusively for the Army, Navy and Marines. They sensed the end approaching and all these boys would be going home. A lot of pay checks would be spent elsewhere.

It seemed like all insane asylums in the country opened their doors to Memphis. Everywhere people acted like lunatics. The man in the street bought drinks for his brothers and his brothers bought in return.

"Where is that girl who just kissed me?", asked one sailor?

"Who cares? Grab the next one", laughed a Marine.

I was in town with Gerry so I can't confirm that the barracks went co-habitate. Guess I may have missed some excitement.
