Born in Yakima, the son of Michael and Amy Donlan Coogan, Pat grew up in Seattle. Pat lived by a deep and abiding faith and his faith found his soul mate in Patty (Patricia Ann Gibbons) Coogan, his wife of 64 years. A lifelong Catholic, schooled by Jesuits at Seattle Prep and refreshed by Benedictine silent retreats, Pat became known for his nightly blessing for each of his children. He continued blessing his grands and even great grands. Pat's calm and resonant voice could capture the imagination (with The Hobbit) or invite contemplation as a lector at St. Leo. A 1957 U.W. grad in Mechanical Engineering, Pat attended Georgetown Law at night, graduating in 1963, and practiced law for Weyerhaeuser. At 62, Pat picked up a hammer for Habitat for Humanity and volunteered in building 100+ homes in Tacoma, Pierce County, Guatemala, and Hungary. He loved organizing its interfaith build, too, with leaders of the Puyallup Tribe, Temple Beth El, and Tacoma's Christian churches. His parents and brothers, Mike and Joe Coogan, preceded him in death, as did his cousin Tom Bleakney. His wife Patty Coogan survives him along with three cousins: Nancy Cleland, Jim Callaghan, and Joanne Valencsin Brinker; six children: Teresa (Dave) Hillis, Steve (Nancy) Coogan, Tim (Franca), Thomas, Peter, and Katy (John) Hunter; six grandchildren: Patrick (Teresa) Hillis, Ryan (Kasi) Hillis, Jordan (Tiffany) Hillis, Shawn (Nick) Flory, and Sam and Maddy Hunter; and six great-grandchildren: Kenedee, Myles, Jae, Jimmy, Fiona, and Londyn. Tim passed on to be embraced in the light of the Lord and reunited with his late father Pat. Tim was a giant among men. He faced life with courage and overcame many challenges after he tragically suffered a spinal injury in Hawaii resulting in paralysis at the age of 18. He fought to regain the use of his upper body, engaged in rehab, and attended the University of Washington for his undergraduate degree. Tim never gave up on life. After graduating from law school, Tim began his legal journey and over the decades he built a successful hometown practice and became an excellent litigator. While he may have been limited by his body, his intellect never failed him. Tim attended mass at St Leo Church and graduated high school from Bellarmine. Tim was very generous and would go out of his way to bring joy to others. Tim was a great organizer and very charismatic. He connected a lot of people. Tim loved UW Football and would organize away trips for his friends, featuring layovers in Reno, Lake Tahoe, or Vegas, because there was no other way to get there. He also had a passion for NASCAR and loved to attend races all over the U.S. Needless to say Tim loved to travel as much as possible which even included visiting Australia almost every Christmas. Tim touched the lives of many people and will be missed by those who loved him. Franca, his wife for the last 14 years, stood by him, comforted him, and brought joy to Tim's life. Franca and Tim loved each other dearly and when Tim started to face more serious health issues, Franca never left his side and was a fierce advocate for Tim. During these last few years, Franca dedicated her life to caring for Tim. Tim is survived by his wife Franca, his mother Patty and siblings Teresa (Dave), Steve (Nancy), Tom, Peter, and Katy (John); his family in Australia: Catherine (Ken), Anna (Rob), Michael, and their children Stephanie, Luke, Alex, Julia, Angelique, and Pierre who loved him endlessly. Tim is also survived by his nieces and nephews Patrick (Teresa), Ryan (Kasi), Jordan, Shawn (Nick), Sam and Maddy. It is with great sorrow that Tim's friends and family say farewell to a brave soul: May the Lord watch over you and embrace you in his warmth forever. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, 4/27 at 12:10 p.m., at St Leo Catholic Church. Reception to follow at Fircrest Golf Club.
