The National Geographic Family Reference Atlas of the World describes North America as follows:
"Third largest of the continents, after Asia and Africa, North America encompasses 9.45 million square miles (24.5 million sq km); its northernmost tip is in Greenland (Cape Morris Jesup), and its southernmost point is in Panama (Peninsula de Azuero)."
