Her obituary contained a humerous story about Mariam: "Once, at a hockey game, two men took exception to how Mariam's youngest son was playing the game. They made a motion towards her son - at which time she sprung into action. With total disregard to her own safety, Mariam grabbed each of the men by a shoulder and pulled them back, stating 'That is my son!' From that day forward, Mariam was lovingly known as 'Crusher.'"
