He married twice. He married Maria Devereaux in Elma, Howard, IA, 27 SEP 1898. Mame was born 1877. Mame was the daughter of Frank J. Devereaux and Julia Sullivan. Mame died 22 JUL 1903 in Rochester, Olmsted, MN, at 26 years of age. He married [Edith] Marie Isabelle Kernahan 27 FEB 1906. Belle was born in Maynard, IA 04 JUL 1882. Belle was the daughter of James Kernahan and Jane Elizabeth Beacom. Belle died 06 MAR 1958 in Seattle, King, WA, at 75 years of age. Her body was interred 10 MAR 1958 in Seattle, King, WA, Calvary Cemetery.

Terrence and Belle were married in the chapel of the Sacred Heart Parochial School. The Oelwein Register (07 MAR 1906) reported that "only immediate relatives and friends were present when the beautiful ceremony was pronounced that made them man and wife. After congratulations were extended the party partook of an elaborate wedding breakfast at the home of Mr. Coogan's sister, Mrs. A. McCusker."

An article in the October 6, 1909, edition of the Oelwein Daily Register reported that Terrence and his family were leaving that night for Seattle, Washington, "near which city they will make their future home. Mr. Coogan has been engaged in the tailoring business in this city for a number of years, and has concluded to remove to the Pacific coast." It also mentioned that Terrence visited his relatives in Clayton County the night before departing.
