The birth record of his son, James, stated his occupation.

Irene Golden said that her parents met because James' sister, Mamie, was friends with Nellie (from school).

Charlie Coogan said that James was very close to his brother Charles: "Both of them decided to name their first sons after each other."

He resided Roxbury, Suffolk, MA 1900, 25 Hulbert Street. He appears in the 1900 US Census. Note: Much of the data from that census appears to be inaccurate - he is listed as James Cogan and his birth year is wrong. He appears in the 1900 Boston City Directory.

He resided Dorchester, Suffolk, MA 1902. He moved his family to live on a farm on the 'other side' of Franklin Field (according to his son, James). He raised Boston Terriers there for several years.

He resided Roxbury, Suffolk, MA 1905-1907, 8 Ray Street. He appears in the 1905 Boston City Directory. His daughter, Irene Golden, said that she was born in that house.
