The marriage of Miss Josephine Osborn, daughter of Professor and Mrs. H. Fairfield Osborn, and Jay Coogan, eldest son of Mrs. James Jay Coogan and the late Mr. Coogan, first Borough President of Manhattan after consolidation, was solemnized yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the residence of the bride's parents, 998 Fifth Avenue. Their engagement was announced only the first of this week, and the date of the wedding was advanced because of the expected departure of Professor and Mrs. Osborn for China. It was a quiet home wedding, the guests numbering forty. The ceremony was performed by Bishop John J. Dunn, Auxiliary Bishop of New York. The bride, in white satin and old lace, an heirloom of the family, was attended by her young niece, Nathalie Osborn, as flower girl. Gardiner Coogan acted as best man for his brother. After their honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Coogan will reside at 1,140 Fifth Avenue. Mr. Coogan was educated at Eaton College, England, and Harvard, and later took his degree in law at the New York University Law School. During the war he served as a lieutenant in the British Army, and after the war he was detailed to the British Legation at Berne, Switzerland. The bride's father is one of the most eminent of American paleontologists and is head of the American Museum of Natural History. Among those at the wedding were Mrs. James J. Coogan, mother of the bridegroom; W. Gordon Coogan, his brother, and Mrs. Coogan; Miss Jessie Coogan, his sister; Mr. and Mrs. William Church Osborn, Mr. and Mrs. H. Coogan and well known in Newport Summer colony, was married Friday to Miss Josephine Osborne, daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Henry Fairfield Osborne of 998 5th av, New York, the ceremony taking place in the bride's home at noon. Mr. Coogan was educated at Eton College, England, and at Harvard, and also took a degree at law in New York University. During the World War he served with the Household Cavalry, Royal Horse Guards of the British Army, from 1915 to 1919 and rose to the rank of major, being awarded the D.S.C. order and the Military Cross.
