The late Mr. Coogan was born in Ireland, and after spending some years in Melbourne, he came to New Zealand in 1870, being appointed master tailor to the A.C. Forces. He was one of the organisers of the Wellington Guards, being elected to the position of lieutenant in 1883. Mr. Coogan was for some time president of the New Zealand Liberal and Labour League, and was made a Justice of the Peace in 1906. One of his sons is Mr. E. H.
