He had been seriously ill several months and for the past month was confined to home most of the time. Deceased was born in the town of Milford on June 8, 1861, and for 22 years past has been a resident of the town of Watertown. He is survived by his wife, nee Ella Burke, and three sons and two daughters. His mother, Mrs. Isabella Coogan, of this city, and one brother, Wm. Coogan, town of Emmet, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Coogan and Mrs. John Solon of this city and Mrs. John O’Connor of Chicago also survive him. Deceased was one of Jefferson county’s best known, most well- to-do, and most esteemed citizens and he has passed from earth carrying with him the blessing and kind words of all who knew him. He possessed a truly Christian character, and was ever striving to do good unto others and to faithfully fulfill his duties on earth as a husband, father and citizen and he succeeded in all his efforts in a commendable manner. His devoted wife and children have lost a kind, loving and considerate husband and father. 13 DEC 2011 RICHARD 'DICK' J. COOGAN - ELKHORN — Richard “Dick” J. Coogan, 76, of Elkhorn, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. Richard was born on Feb. 15, 1935, in Watertown, the son of Neil and Lillian (Cameron) Coogan. He graduated from Watertown High School. On Aug. 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn R. Kennedy in Watertown. Richard graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a master’s degree in Social Work. He began his career as a social worker at Mendota State Hospital in Oshkosh and later moved to Elkhorn, where he was the administrator of the Walworth County Nursing Home. He worked there until 1979. Richard then served as the administrator of the Franciscan Villa Nursing Home in South Milwaukee until he retired in 1993. Richard was a former member of the Elkhorn Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors of VIP Services. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn; one daughter, Bridget (Bill) Trewyn of Elkhorn; a son-in- law, Tom (Jamie) Stepp of Elkhorn; three grandchildren, Ryan and Cameron Stepp and Signe Trewyn; two brothers, Frank Coogan of West Allis and David (Carol) Coogan of Florida; and one sister, Patricia (Jim) Rickert of North Carolina. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a daughter, Claire M. Stepp; and his brother, Dan Coogan. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home in Elkhorn with the Rev. Dr. Scott McLeod officiating.
