Rosary Monday evening, 8 o'clock. 22 JUN 1985 - [PAGE 14] COOGAN - Peter Francis Coogan, 80, a San Francisco lawyer and an authority on bankruptcy and business law, died Thursday of pneumonia in Boston. Mr. Coogan, who was a native of Watertown, Wis., and a graduate of Harvard Law School, wrote many law review articles and was the author of a respected treatise on business law. He was a member of the Murphy, Weir & Butler law firm of San Francisco. Surviving are his wife, Barbara, of San Francisco, and four children. A memorial service will be held Monday in Boston. 06 APR 1998 COOGAN - Sean Coogan, who was hailed a hero for saving fellow firefighters during the 1996 Calabasas-Malibu firestorm, died of a heart attack. He was 47. Mr. Coogan died Wednesday at his home in Rancho Cucamonga, Glendale fire officials announced Saturday. He was found by his wife of two years when she returned home from her job as a dispatcher at the Fire Department, where they met. Attempts to resuscitate Mr. Coogan were unsuccessful, fire Battalion Chief Steve Howard said. Last year, the 24-year department veteran received the fire chief's commendation for "heroic actions and commitment to duty" during the Calabasas-Malibu fire. Mr. Coogan was driving a fire engine that became trapped in a firestorm while protecting homes in Corral Canyon on Oct. 22, 1996. Six fire- fighters were injured, including William Jensen, who received second- and third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body and was hospitalized for three months. "Sean has been one of my best friends on and off the job for the whole 24 years he was in the department," Jensen said. "If he hadn't stayed at his post and kept pumping the water to us, we wouldn't have been able to get out." Mr. Coogan is survived by his wife, Linda, and an 11-year-old daughter, Jenna. 29 NOV 2005 COOGAN - Emmons Wellington Coogan - Born May 29, 1919 in Oakland, died November 14, 2005 in Los Gatos. He grew up in Alameda and Piedmont, went to Piedmont High School and U.C. Berkeley and was a Delta Tau Delta. In early 1941 he joined the American Field Service and drove ambulances in North Africa for a year. He then joined the Marine Corps and came out a captain in 1945. He married Peggy Slocumb in 1946. He started with Prudential Life Insurance in 1946 in San Francisco and opened the first Prudential Life office in San Jose in 1951. He worked with the certified Life Underwriters, The Heart Association, Children's Home Society, Red Cross Blood Bank, March of Dimes and was man of the year in the fifties. He leaves his wife of 59 1/2 years, Peggy and daughter, Katie and sons, Tim, Michael and Patrick; grandchildren Megan, Michaela and Coogan. He loved his games of golf and happy times at the St. Claire Club playing dominoes with friends. At his request there will be no services.
