W. Sparling with two other gentlemen, and said to Sparling: "I wish to make my will, as life is uncertain." Sparling drew up the will, and it was signed by Coogan and witnessed by the two gentlemen, Thomas Grant and Felix Develin. Mr. Develin [should probably be Coogan] died about 8 o'clock on the same day. 04 SEP 1885 DEATH OF MICHAEL COOGAN - A resident of Washington avenue, Michael Coogan, died this week after a long illness. Mr. Coogan was 56 years old and was at one time a member of the firm Coogan & Casey, contractors. COOGAN - The Funeral of Mrs. Mary A. Coogan, the widow of Michael Coogan, and the mother of ex-Alderman Patrick H. Relatives and friends invited. 07 DEC 1896 DEATH OF EX-ALDERMAN COOGAN - Patrick H. Coogan, died at his late residence on Wilbur avenue, early on Saturday morning at the age of 38 years, after long and patient suffering. He was the eldest son of the twelve children of Michael and Mary A. Coogan, who resided during the most of their lives in this city. The deceased was a man who possessed many traits of character, which endeared him to a wide circle of friends, who mourn his loss. He was a stone cutter by trade and while working on the State Capitol contracted what is known as "stone cutters' consumption." He had been ill for only two days. The young student was born 18 years ago today, the son of the late Dr. William J. Coogan, a native of Kingston who was employed as a reporter on The Freeman during his medical school days, and Mrs. Margaret Patterson [sic] Coogan, of Brooklyn. Surviving are his mother, two younger brothers, John and Robert; and his grand-mother, Mrs. Mary L. Coogan of South Manor avenue, this city. COOGAN - February 11, 1920 - February 29, 2016 - [photo] U.S. Veteran - New Paltz - Clarence V. Coogan, of Old Route 32, Feb. 29, 2016, formerly of Rifton / Esopus, died at Monday February 29, 2016 at the Mountain Valley Manor in Kingston where he had been a resident for the past year. He was born February 11, 1920 in Albany NY, a son of the late Clarence V. Sr. and Kathleen Crow Coogan. He is survived by wife Wilma Lyon Coogan, a son Charles Coogan (Marsha) of Danvers, MA, daughter Linda Coogan-Liggan (Billy) of Binnewater, step daughter Dawn Cullen (Neville) of The Villages, FL., 8 grand- children : Eric Scharmer, Susan Cullen, Michael Gerety, Thomas Gerety, Kristin Cullen, Mark Coogan, Kieran Liggan-Casey and Breanna Liggan ; 8 great grandchildren: Christopher Cullen, Billy & Lillith Russell, Caleigh Coogan, Willow Casey, Janet, Celia and Eliza Scharmer; sister in Law, Emily Coogan and several nieces and nephews. His brother Edwin Coogan, former wife Geraldine Willt Coogan, and step son Francis "Bruv" Hoisington, all died previously. His life long fascination of airplanes and flight led to his enlistment and becoming an aircraft mechanic for the US Navy during WWII, and a long time member of American Legion Post 1219, Tillson, NY and their Color Guard. He moved from Elmsford, NY to Binnewater in 1954 and worked as a mechanic and bus driver for Arthur F. Mulligan Garage on Main St., Rosendale, before being hired by IBM. Clarence worked at IBM for over 35 years and was a Quarter Century Club member. He worked 2 jobs while he attended UCCC (now SUNY Ulster) to obtain an associates degree in Drafting. He retired as a Technical Writer, and returned several times to help complete special projects. As a life-long songster Clarence sang with the “Sweet Siders” barbershop quartet as well as 25 years of entertaining with the White Plains, Kingston and Poughkeepsie choruses. He was on the Rondout Valley Board of Education during the establishment of the Rondout Middle School and Rosendale Elementary School and was able to present son Charles and daughter Linda with their High School Diplomas. He enjoyed roller skating, Native American Culture, and spent much time vacationing in St. Martin. Clarence loved Motorcycles and rode into his 70's, traveling the east coast from Newfoundland to Florida and worked out at the MAC Gym until about age 94. Other community contributions included Fire Chief of the Binnewater Volunteer Fire Department, securing property for the original A.J. Snyder Little League Field, first manager of the Little League Indians. He like many others in the area, became an avid NY Yankees Fan! Clarence and his wife Wilma enjoyed their new friends and staff at Mountain Valley Manor, loved playing Bingo and Rummycube. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Manor for their attentive care and antics with Clarence. He and Wilma also formed many friends in the Bruderhoff Community. Services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the George J. Moylan Home, 2053 Rt 32, Rosendale. Rev. Arlene Dawber will officiate. She was born in Rochester, Vermont, on Nov. 2, 1920, to the late John T. and Clara P. Lyon. She grew up and lived in Vermont for many years before moving to N.Y. Wilma was a retired bookkeeper for several companies through the years. She particularly enjoyed her 37 years at Williams Lake Hotel in Rosendale. She was also a ladies auxiliary member of the American Legion Post #1219 in Tillson, N.Y. Having a deep love of music, Wilma at age 59 went back to school and at age 62 earned her degree in Musical Theory at Ulster Community College. She took pleasure in playing the piano and violin and enjoyed teaching violin to her granddaughter. Wilma loved and cherished each and every member of her family. She enjoyed vacationing with family in St. Martin, taking cruises, and motorcycle trips with her husband Clarence, playing games of cribbage, watching the birds and animals that came to her birdfeeder, gardening and a good Manhattan! In addition to all this, she was a wonderful cook. Her husband, Clarence V. Coogan; her sister, Dawn Schofield; a son, Francis E. Hoisington, and great-grandson, Mark Gerety passed on before her. Wilma is survived by her daughter Dawn (husband, Neville) Cullen of The Villages, Fla.; a daughter Linda (husband Billy) Liggan of Rosendale, N.Y.; a son Charles (wife Marsha) Coogan of Danvers, Mass.; and a brother John (wife Joyce) Lyon, of Harrisonburg, Va., plus eight grand- children, 11 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
