He was born December 27, 1924, to John S. and Augusta L. (Clancey) Cougan in Bayonne, NJ. Jack served his country during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre with the US Navy. Upon his discharge in 1946, he would earn a degree in engineering from Davis and Elkins College. Jack worked for over 20 years as a utility and railroad engineer for the state of Indiana and on the original I-465 project as a construction engineer. He retired from the state in 1994. Jack was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, Mater Dei Council 437 of Knights of Columbus, and a 4th Degree Knight of Bishop Chetard Assembly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (Sullivan) Cougan and brother Robert Bruce Cougan. Jack is survived by his children, Debora (Gary Sr.) Smith, John S. (Monica) Cougan III, Joseph S. (Michelle) Cougan, Sr., Mary Jane Cougan, and Robert C. (Christine) Cougan; sister Joyce Louise Cougan and eleven grandchildren. Funeral service 10:15 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 in Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
