She was 73. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 19624 Wood St, Melvindale. Although Ms. Coogan Ungar most recently lived in Lecanto, Fla., she was born to Joseph and Irene Coogan in Melvindale, where she also was raised. She graduated from Melvindale High School in 1947 and shortly after began working as a teletype operator at Ford Motor Co. World Head- quarters in Dearborn. Her daughter, Jennifer Hoff, said Ms. Coogan Ungar eventually moved into a supervisory position and retired after 40 years with the company. Ms. Coogan Ungar was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Her daughter said she also volunteered for a child advocacy group while she lived in Florida. "She would oversee visitation between parents and children," Hoff said. "She was very kind hearted and was always willing to lend a hand." But those who knew Ms. Coogan Ungar would say her real passion was golf. "That became her full-time job after she retired," Hoff said, adding that her mother also enjoyed gardening, swimming, working on computers, reading and dancing. In addition to Hoff, Ms. Coogan Ungar is survived by five other children: Bruce Ungar, Susan Haskin, Sandra Ungar, Dr. Brent Ungar and Dr. Keith Ungar; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
