COOGAN - Miss Agnes E. Coogan of 2 Vanderhorst St., a retired Charleston County public health nurse, died Monday night [25 DEC 1953] at a local infirmary. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. Burial, directed by McAllister's will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Miss Coogan, who was born in Charleston, April 20, 1885, and graduated from St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing in 1905, spent most of her nursing career in the Division of Communicable Disease Control. She took post graduate training at the New York Polyclinic Medical School and hospital and for 10 years was assistant to a local surgeon. Miss Coogan retired from the health department in 1952. She devoted much of her time to church work, first at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and later at St. Patrick's. Pallbearers will be John H. White, R. W. Heape, A. Marion Stone, John Joseph Kennedy, Leo K. Fowler, Raphael T. Masters and Hyman Rephan. Ms. Miller was born August 21, 1936, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Helen Delores Young Coogan. Ms. Miller was a retired contract surveillance representative with the Public Works Department, US Navy, Jacksonville, Florida, Charleston Zone. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, St. Louis, Mo., and Trident Technical College with a business degree, and was a member of All Saints Protestant Chapel, Men-Riv, Charleston, S.C. Ms. Miller is survived by her son, Michael L. and daughter in law Tammy Bolton Miller of Tacoma, Wash., two daughters: Teresa D. Miller and life partner Barbara Tuttle of Charleston, S.C., Lynn M.
