The deceased was formerly engaged in farming pursuits at Rosenthal and Sandy Creek, where he was well known and highly respected. He latterly resided in Pratten-street, Warwick. He is survived by his widow and a family of two (a son and a daughter). The funeral took place to Warwick Cemetery to-day. 21 MAY 1928 - "Obituary" ["Courier" - PAGE 15] [COOGAN] - General regret was expressed at Goodna when it became known that Mr. Andrew Coogan had passed away in a private hospital in Ipswich, on Saturday morning, after a brief illness. The late Mr. Coogan was a fine type of Queenslander, of splendid physique, and of an even temperment. He was a son of very old residents of the Goodna district. His father dying when he was in his 'teens, he was given employment as a herdsman at the Goodna Hospital, and he had continued in the public service ever since, a period of 43 years. He was a splendid athlete, and also took an interest in public matters. He was a trustee of the Goodna recreation reserve and was recently appointed as a trustee of the Memorial School of Arts. He was a keen supporter of the Friendly Societies movement, and was a past officer of the H.A.C.B. Society. He is survived by his widow and nine children - Messrs. James (Redbank), Joseph, Martin, Frank, Daniel, and Madames F. Healey (Nanango), J. McGrath, G. Gilson, and Miss Eva Coogan. One of the sons (Thomas) was killed at the landing at Gallipoli. Yesterday the body was taken to St. Patrick's Church, whence the funeral took place in the Ipswich Cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. Father [Kastnik ?]. COOGAN - The death occured recently at the Longreach Hospital of Mr. Martin Coogan (87), an old identity in Central Queensland. Mr. Coogan had been employed on Tara and Glenbuck principally over the past 40 or 50 years. At one time he was keenly interested in the turf and raced Shamrock in partnership with the late Mr. Mat Meehan, [Barealdine]. He was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to Australia in a sailing vessel about 60 years ago.
