James F. Barrett of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Hartford and Rev. James Dargan of St. Peter's Church, Hartford, both graduates of Sacred Heart school and natives of this city, officiated as deacon and sub-deacon respectively. Rev. William Flynn, assistant chancellor of the diocese of Hartford was the master of ceremonies. The clergymen present in the sanctuary were Rev. Thomas F. Mooney of Sacred Heart church, Rev. William J. Blake of Fairfield and Rev. James C. O'Brien of Stamford, former pastor of Sacred Heart church. A large number of the alumnae of the school were present at the obsequies. The final absolution was pronounced by Right Rev. John J. Nilan, bishop of Hartford. Burial was in Sisters of Mercy cemetery, West Hartford where committal services were read by Father O'Brien assisted by Fathers Flynn and Dargan. Sister Laurentia is survived by two brothers, Dr. Joseph Coogan of Windsor Locks and Judge John Coogan of Hartford and a sister, Mrs. Eliza Henson of Windsor Locks. 10 JUL 1951 - [PAGE 15] MRS. MARY E. COOGAN DIES IN NEW HAVEN - NEW HAVEN, July 9 - (AP) Mrs. Mary E. Coogan, wife of James E. Coogan, assistant superintendent of parks in charge of the recreation division and nationally known football and basketball officials, died at 11:30 o'clock last night in the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was 64 years old. Mrs. Coogan was taken suddenly ill at 1:30 P.M Saturday in her home and was removed to the hospital when she did not respond to treatment. Death was apparently due to a stroke. The funeral will take place from the family residence Wednesday at 8:30 A.M., and a St. Joseph's Church at 9 o'clock where a solemn requiem high Mass will be said. Burial will be in St. Lawrence cemetery. Besides her husband, Mrs. Coogan is survived by four daughters, Mrs. John J. Casey and the Misses Frances C. and Rita L. Coogan, all of New Haven and Mrs. John P. Keiley of Babylon, N.Y.; and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Roache and the Misses Nora H., Catherine B., and Margaret C. Lonergan, all of New Haven.
