"BILL" COOGAN, JR ROCK ISLAND, IL - Former Niagara Falls native, William J. "Bill" Coogan, Jr., 79, of Rock Island, IL, died, Sunday, November 7, 2010, in Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, IL. Mr. Coogan was born July 8, 1931, in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of William J. and Loretta Rivard Coogan. He married Phyllis Galante on July 25, 1965. Bill attended St. Mary's of the Cataract Lyceum & School in Naigara Falls, NY, and graduated in 1949. He also received an Associate's degree in Industrial Chemistry at Erie County Technical Institute in Buffalo, NY, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Houghton, MI. Bill worked for the Ammunition and Weapons Command for the United States Army for over 30 years. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal over 25 years, before retiring in 1993. Bill was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served during the Korean War. Bill was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus, and a life member of the Father Edward J. Bader Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was formerly a member of the River Cities Investment Club. He enjoyed coin collecting, Classical music and playing the piano. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Phyllis; daughters, Maureen Coogan, Chicago, IL, and Jane and Rui Cerejo, and grandchildren, Chase, Carson and Grace Cerejo, Wellington, FL; sisters, Mary Stapleton (Edward), North Tonawanda, NY, Louisa Congdon, Seattle, WA, Margaret Firth (John), Grand Island, NY; and brother, John Coogan (Mary), Amelia Island, FL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
