Arrangements: Roberson Funeral Home. _______________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "?", [18 FEB] 2014): WILLIAM "BILL" JOSEPH COOGAN August 26, 1954 - February 13, 2014 Punta Gorda, Florida William "Bill" Joseph Coogan, 59, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at home in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was born August 26, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY to Emma Hangarter Coogan and the late Robert Francis Coogan. He grew up in a loving home with 7 brothers and 6 sisters. Bill was a graduate of Brooklyn Preparatory School and Fordham University. He was one of the founders of Pac Bridge Shipping in New York, a pioneer in the Ocean Logistics Freight service sector. The company was later acquired by Expeditors International, where he worked for over 25 years, retiring as an Executive Vice President. Bill's career allowed him to develop close friendships with colleagues around the world, and he was well known and respected in the global ocean shipping industry. Upon retirement from Expeditors in 2004, Bill and his family relocated from Seattle to Punta Gorda to be closer to his east coast roots and to pursue his passion for sailing. Bill was happiest when entertaining and caring for his loved ones and friends. He did this graciously and unselfishly, always putting others before himself. His extensive sailing adventures took him from the waters of the Puget Sound in Washington State to the Bahamas and up the Eastern seaboard all the way to the Coast of Maine. Bill is survived by his loving and beloved wife of 16 years, Christina Ameglio Coogan; his mother Emma, his sons William Joseph Coogan (and wife Anna), Robert Francis Coogan and James Paul Coogan; daughters Sarah Christine Coogan and Isabella Grace Coogan; 13 brothers and sisters and their families. Bill will be remembered as a devoted loving husband and father who cherished time with his family. He was known for his quick wit, keen intelligence and willingness to always help those around him. He was very proud of the gifts and accomplishments of his children. All who knew him will carry forever his lesson of strength and love, as he touched and impacted so many lives. Bill will be deeply missed. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garden City, NY.
