http://www.cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/index.htm 15 September 2013 Obituary of Sheila Jane Coogan _______________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "Vermont Standard" [VT], 06 SEP 2013): SHEILA COOGAN SOUTH ROYALTON — A memorial service for Sheila Jane Coogan, 59, who died Aug. 24 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn. from complications of heart disease, will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of South Royalton. Rev. Sam Newton will officiate. Calling hours will be Friday, Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. Burial will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. She was born Oct. 22, 1953, in Barre, daughter of Gifford E. and Donna (Estabrook) Harrington. She attended school in Essex Junction and later South Royalton where she graduated from South Royalton High School in 1971. After high school, she attended and graduated in 1973 from the Thompson’s School of Nursing in Brattleboro, where she received her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse. On Aug. 9, 1975, she married John F Coogan of Wallingford, Conn. They lived all 38 years of their married life in South Royalton where they raised their two sons. Sheila worked for six years at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H. before working over 30 years at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. The last few years of her working career were at the Sharon Health Center in Sharon. She was a member of the United Church of South Royalton, South Royalton Women’s Club, Champlain Valley Historical Re-enactors and the South Royalton Town Band. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, hooking rugs, cooking, music, Civil War re-enacting, swimming, kayaking, camping, fishing and spending time at Silver Lake and Cape Cod. She liked to attend sporting events, eat popcorn, ride horses and work in her vegetable and flower gardens. She also loved cats. She is survived by her husband, John Coogan of South Royalton; two sons, Lukas A.J. Coogan and his wife, Michelle of Barnard and Jared J.G. Coogan of Bethel; a grandson, Malachi Coogan of Barnard; her mother, Donna Harrington; two brothers, Bryan Harrington and his wife, Theresa and Scott Harrington and his wife, Diane all of South Royalton; a sister-in-law, Holly Harrington of East Brookfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Gifford Harrington; and a brother, Carl Harrington.
