COOGAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS. FUNERAL CONDUCTED WEDNESDAY Funeral service for Robert C. Coogan, 56 years old, widely known Fort Smith furniture dealer, were conducted at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Msgr. Patrick F. Horan officiated and burial was in, the Catholic cemetery. The body was returned to the residence, 518 South Sixteenth street at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning. It was taken to the church shortly before the funeral hour, Wednesday. Mr. Coogan died at 3:25 o'clock Monday afternoon [30 APR 1934] at his home. His death was unexpected, although he has been in failing health for three years. He was the founder and operator of the City Furniture company 919 Rogers Avenue. Mr. Coogan is survived by his son, Robert Coogan Jr., and by a niece and four nephews. Mr. Coogan was born Jan. 7, 1878, at Charleston, S. C. He came to Ft. Smith when he was very young, with his sister, the late Margaret Coogan Carter. They made their home with an Aunt and Uncle, Mr. and Mrs. William Breen. Mr. Coogan was employed by the Speer Hardware Company for 20 years. In 1919 he opened his first furniture store, 1103 Garrison avenue.
