"DICK" COOGAN [photo] Richard G. “Dick” Coogan, 85, of 27 Kramer Ave., Oil City, died at 5:19 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca after a brief illness. Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Crown, he was the son of the late James and Agnes Gregory Coogan. Mr. Coogan retired from Foster Forbes Glass Plant, and after his retirement he drove truck with his brothers and also had worked for Selker Bros. at the Quaker State filling station on Oil City’s South Side. Dick was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a radioman first class. Dick was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church. He was a member of the Pulaski Club. Mr. Coogan enjoyed mowing his yard and spending time with Lindsey and Brady Foy and the Buchanan family. He also enjoyed visiting the Amish in Venus and Lake Lucy and buying their goods. He was married to the former Marguerite “Shirley” Clayton, and she preceded him in death May 9, 1988. He is survived by three children, Shawn Coogan and his wife Elissa of Siverly, Kelly Buchanan and her fiance Bob Gluvna of Oil City, and Donna Flinspach and her husband Barry of Oil City; two sisters, Jean Bayer of Chicago, Ill., and Margaret “Peg” Sloan of Oil City and Florida; his special friends, Ruth and Gloria Buchanan and Tom and Lyn Serafin; as well as many nieces and nephews and good friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin P. Coogan and an infant, Edward Coogan; and three brothers, Jim Coogan, Mike Coogan and Don Coogan. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Help of Christians Church with Fr. Shane Mathew, pastor, presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
