J. COOGAN Deep regret was expressed by many Gayndah and district residents at the sad end of Patrick Joseph COogan, who passed away on Saturday night last, after a long illness. Deceased, who was in his 67th year, had a very brilliant scholastic career and was educated at a Christian Brothers' College in Brisbane. After leaving school, he acted as associate to ex-Judge Real, after which he studied law and passed his final examination for solicitors, securing first place in Queensland for that year. He practised at Ipswich and then at Gayndah. In his youth, the late Mr. Coogan was a well-known footballer, and had the distinction of captaining Queensland against New South Wales. Deceased passed the latter years of his life in retirement in Gayndah, and for the last eight months had been an inmate of the local hospital, where he bore his long illness with great fortitude to the last. He is survived by his wife, and one daughter as well as two brothers. The funeral took place from the Roman Catholic Church on Sunday morning last, and it was attended by many friends of the deceased. The Rev. Father J. Isaacs recited prayers at the graveside.
