COOGAN X-RAY TECHNICIAN, ELECTRICIAN A funeral Mass for Michael J. Coogan, 75, Riverbend Drive East, town of LeRay, will be said at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Black River, with the Rev. Andrew R. Mulvaney, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Coogan died Tuesday afternoon at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service. He served in the Air Force for 21 years, enlisting July 20, 1946, and was honorably discharged June 30, 1967, as a technical sergeant. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Korea), Good Conduct Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Following his military service, he was an X-ray technician and then department head at the former Mercy Hospital for 11 years. He then worked for Fort Drum for 11 years as an electrician, retiring in 1994. While at Fort Drum he received several letters of appreciation. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a fourth- degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fort Drum/Black River Council. He had been a K of C member for more than 50 years. He volunteered his electrical and handyman skills at St. Paul's Church and was an avid card player, woodworker and science fiction movie fan. He enjoyed playing golf and got a hole-in-one on July 11, 1997, at the Willowbrook Golf Course. Born Jan. 4, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Michael J. and Edna Brown Coogan, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Philadelphia. He married Mary Lou Cerow on June 14, 1952, at Holy Family Church with the Rev. Albert J. Farrell officiating. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Michelle Jessup, Spartansburg, S.C.; two sons and their wives, Michael P. and Mariann, Long Island, and Mitchell F. and Sandra M., Taberg, five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
