Coogan, 45, one of the first civilians ashore with General MacArthur's troops in the Leyte invasion, died late today after a short illness. Coogan wasn an automotive advisor to MacArthur's forces. He was injured a few days after the Leyte landing by an aerial bomb burst and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was hospitalized in New Caledonia and Hawaii before being invalidid home in February, 1944. Earlier, he helped train 7th Infantry Division drivers and aided in development of the amphibious "duck." _________________________________________________________________
