Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Newton Coogan

MARY E. COOGAN, 49 [should be 40]

DENNIS - Mary Elizabeth (Newton) Coogan, 49 [should be 40], died
Thursday at the home of her sister in Solvang, Calif., after a 
long illness.

She was the wife of James J. Coogan Jr. of Dennis.  Mr. Coogan is a
teacher at Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Coogan moved with her family to 
California, where she attended schools in the Palo Alto area.  She
attended the University of Oregon in Eugene. Following her marriage,
Mrs. Coogan moved to Dennis, where she lived for the last 14 years.

She was a volunteer in the local schools, primarily at the Nathaniel
Wixon Middle School library.  Mrs. Coogan also volunteers her time 
to the Dennis Youth Soccer Commission.  

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Coogan is survived by one son, 
James J. Coogan V of Dennis; two daughters, Catharine Louise Coogan, 
and Carolyn Elizabeth Coogan of Dennis; one brother, William P. 
Newton of San Antonio, Texas; three 3 sisters, Nelle Hubbard of 
Solvang, Calif., Judith Davis of Castro Valley, Calif., and Susan 
Creel of Maryland.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the East Dennis Community 
Church, Center Street, East Dennis.  Burial will follow in the 
Brewster Cemetery, Brewster.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Trinity School of Cape Cod, 
9 Carter Road, South Yarmouth 02664.

of 40, a resident of Dennis, wife of James Joseph Coogan, Jr., and 
mother of James Joseph Coogan V, Catharine Louise Coogan, and 
Carolyn Elizabeth Coogan all of Dennis, she is also survived by 1 
brother, William P. Newton of San Antonio, TX, 3 sisters, Nelle 
Hubbard of Solvang, CA, Judith Davis of Castro Valley, CA, and 
Susan Creel of Maryland.  Friends and relatives are invited to 
attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, August 14 at 1 p.m. in East 
Dennis Community Church, Center St., East Dennis.  Burial will be 
in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster, MA.  Contributions in her memory 
may be made to Trinity School of Cape Cod, 9 Carter Rd., South 
Yarmouth, MA 02664.  Arrangements by the Hallett Funeral Home, 
South Yarmouth.
