Obituary of James Alan Coogan

JAMES COOGAN

MILWAUKIE, Ore. - James A. Coogan, 79, died Dec. 8, 1988, at
Providence Hospital, Milwaukie, Ore.  Born April 7, 1909, at
Milwaukee, Wis., he married Helen Townsley April 20, 1940 at Rio
de Janiero, Brazil.  She died in 1972.  Retired from the 
newspaper industry, he was a resident of Milwaukie, Ore., moving
from San Francisco.  He was a former resident of Great Bend,
having been the managing editor at the Great Bend Tribune.

He was a member of the San Francisco Press Club.

Survivors: son, Alan, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Alice Coogan,
Palo Alto, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Great Bend, Father Gerold Hammeke.  Burial will be in the Great
Bend Cemetery.  Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday at 
Fryberger Mortuary, Great Bend.

Tribune editor and United Press International employee, died 
Thursday, Dec. 8, 1988.  Service 10 a.m. Monday, St. Patrick
Catholic Church.

Survivors: son, Alan of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Alice of Palo
Alto, Calif.; one grandchild.  Fryberger Mortuary.
