Obituary of Helen (Townsley) Coogan

MRS. HELEN COOGAN
DIES SATURDAY

Mrs. J. Alan Coogan, 60, Shell Knob, Mo., died late Saturday
afternoon at the Glendale Hospital, Glendale, Calif., following a
heart attack Friday night.  

The former Helen Townsley, Mrs. Coogan for an [sic] number of
years owned and operated the Tribune with her brothers, Will and
Russell, and was also a founder of radio station KVGB.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, James and Davey, and a
daughter Alice, as well as her brothers, Will and Russell.

DIES IN CALIFORNIA

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - Mrs. Helen Townsley Coogan, 60, of Shell
Knob, Mo., died Saturday following a heart attack Friday while
on a visit here.

Mrs. Coogan was a native of Great Bend, Kan., and the daughter of
Will L. Townsley and granddaughter of C. P. Townsley, who 
established the Great Bend, Kan., Tribune.

With her brothers, Will and Russell, she published the Tribune 
until 1966, when the Kansas City Star purchased the paper.  Until
1970 she also was president of Great Bend radio station KVGB.
