COOGAN Edward J. Coogan died Nov. 3, 2005, at his home in Arlington after a brief illness. He was 75. Mr. Coogan was born in Somerville on August 24, 1930, son of the late Emma and Richard Coogan, and was a resident for most of his life before moving to Arlington recently. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a U.S. Postal worker, retiring in 1992, and a parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in Union Square. He was a husband of Joan Phaneuf Coogan; brother of Richard of Yarmouthport, Betty Kennedy of Quincy, James of Wakefield, Mary Lou Devereaux of Somerville, Emma Madden of Merrimac, and the late John Coogan, Sally O'Neill and Rosemary Cronin; and uncle of Karen, Susan, Joan, Bobby, Jimmy, Danny, Jeanne, Betty, Noreen, Laura and many other nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was held Nov. 7 at St. Joseph's Church, with burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge. Coogan, 76, who lived in Somerville for most of his life, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Joan (Phaneuf) Coogan. He was born in Somerville on Aug. 24, 1930, the son of the late Richard and Emma Coogan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Coogan was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Somerville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Richard Coogan of Yarmouthport and James Coogan of Wakefield; three sisters, Betty Kennedy of Quincy, Mary Lou Devereaux of Somerville and Emma Madden of Merrimac; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Nov. 7 from the George L. Doherty FUneral Home in Somerville, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church.
