Coogan _____________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" [NY], 09 JUL 1923, PAGE 18): DR. W. J. COOGAN DIES AFTER OPERATION Dr. William J. Coogan, 30 years old, of 852 Lincoln pl., a member of the staffs of St. Mary's and the Coney Island hospitals, and who was rapidly gaining prominence for his surgical work, died yesterday in the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Manhattan following an operation. Dr. Coogan had a notable war record, having been twice cited for bravery while he was a captain in the Medical Corps of the 107th Inf. in the A. E. F. His citations were awarded for maintaining first aid stations in the front battle lines. Dr. Coogan was born in Kinston [sic], N.Y., the son of Marie Louise Mulhern and the late Patrick Coogan, and had resided here for the past 12 years. He was a graduate of Holy Cross College and the Fordham Medical School, and was a member of Columbus Council, K. of C. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Catterson, a former teacher in P.S. No. 132, two sons, William J. and John, and his mother. A mass of requiem will be offered in St. Gregory's R.C. Church, St. John's pl. and Brooklyn ave., on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock.
