[VA], 12 AUG 2014): BETTY SOWERS COOGAN (May 29, 1927 - August 7, 2014) Betty Sowers Coogan, 87, of Crozet died at a local hospital on August 7, 2014. She was born in Floyd County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Alva Samuel Sowers and Mattie Bell Sowers. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Coogan Payne. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Tracy Coogan, Jr. and two daughters, Tracy Coogan Finney of Charlottesville and Lucy Elizabeth Coogan of Crozet and a son, Arthur Tracy Coogan III, and his wife Cristina Maccora of Haughton, Louisiana, and five grandchildren, Nick Payne, Jessie Payne, Mattie Yancey, Alessandra Coogan, Susan Coogan. Great-grandchild Lukis Fortenberry. Betty was a educator and taught for thirty years at Crozet Elemetary School and retired in June of 1992. She received her BS degree from Keene State College and ME degree from University of Rhode Island. She was a member of the Red Hatter Society, and a member of Tabor Presbyterian Church for 40 years and FCE organization. Mom was the most giving, loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was a beautiful and amazing woman and touched many lives. She was our everything! In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Tabor Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 446, Crozet, VA 22932. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Tabor Presbyterian Church, Crozet, VA with Rev. Dr. Jewel Ann Parton officiating. Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery at a later date.
