COOGAN MELROSE - ...Mrs. Coogan had been a resident of Everett for the last 82 years... _____________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "Boston Herald" [MA], 22 MAY 2008): MARY COOGAN, 94, EVERETT RESIDENT Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Bourque) Coogan of Everett, a homemaker, died Sunday at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 94. Born in Wakefield, Mrs. Coogan lived in Nova Scotia until age 12. She then moved to Everett, where she lived for 82 years. She attended Everett High School and took courses at Harvard University. Mrs. Coogan was talented in handcrafts, sewing and quilting, and was fluent in French. She loved traveling and listening to opera at her home. An avid reader, she loved Shakespeare. Wife of the late George, Mrs. Coogan is survived by a daughter, Maureen Barstow of Melrose; four sons, Timothy of Stow, Paul of Melrose, Kevin of Everett and Richard of North Reading; a brother, Joseph Bourque of Saugus; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at Church of the Incarnation, Melrose. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
