19 November 2006 COOGAN story appearing in "Brooklyn Eagle" (01 APR 1878): Nicholas Coogan, a mason, aged 38 years, residing at No. 24 Columbia place, while under the influence of liquor on Saturday night, fell overboard from the foot of Little street. His cries for assistance brought Officer Kearney, of the Second Precinct, to the spot, and after a severe effort the drowning man was rescued. When taken out of the water, Coogan was greatly exhausted and it required long and vigorous rolling on a barrel before he was completely resuscitated. He was taken to the station house and kindly cared for during the night.
