COOGAN story appearing in "Documents of the ... Legislature of the
State of New Jersey: Report of Accidents on the Morris and Essex
Division of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad During
the Year 1871" (1872, PAGE 46):


JUNE 16 - Thomas Coogan stepped on the track just as a coal train
was approaching near Port Morris, and was struck and killed.  No
inquest.  P. S. Silsbie, conductor; Thomas Kirkwood, engineer.
