Fintan Coogan 
   born:  June 1944, Galway, Ireland
   Senator

Fintan Coogan is a new Senator (Administrative Panel) and is a 
former Dail Deputy for Galway West (1982-87).  He is a former 
member of Galway County Council and since 1988 has been a member 
of Galway County Borough Council.  He was Lord Mayor of Galway 
in 1988/9 and 1995/6.  He was Chairman of the General Council of 
County Councils between 1995 and 1996, and is a former member 
of the Western Health Board.  Fintan served on the Board of 
Galway Airport and is a Director of the Great Southern Hotel Group,
having been appointed to the Board in 1995.

Senator Coogan is the son of the late Fintan Coogan who was Dail 
Deputy for Galway West from 1954-1977.

Married: Carol Clarke. 3 daughters, 1 son

Education: St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Galway

University College Galway (BA, HDipEd)

College Lecturer in Behavioural Science, Regional Technical 
College, Galway.
