June 26 - Simon Coogan, of this city, was scalded to death today in the cellar of the Willow Street Power House of the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The accident was caused by a bursting steam pipe. ____________________________________________________________________ appearing in "Frederick News" [MD], 27 JUN 1905, PAGE 1: WORKMEN MET AWFUL DEATH One Crushed Flat by Falling Boiler and Other Scalded to Death [...other story...] After finishing his night's work at Baldwin's Locomotive works, Simon Coogan was literally roasted to death through the bursting of a steam pipe. Coogan's cries for help were heard by other workmen, and every means of saving him were tried, but it was useless, as it was impossible to reach the imprisoned man on account of the steam thatg rushed through the opening of the pipe. After a few minutes, when the force of the steam had died away, a number of workmen descended into the cellar and found the body of Coogan almost scalded beyond description.
