In April last, Auspeck, who is white, married a colored woman and took up his residence in First street, Jersey City, in a neighborhood thickly populated by white people. The neighbors objected to the presence of Auspeck and his dusky bride, and made the place too hot to hold them. On one occasion, particularly, they assaulted and beat him, and Coogan was arrested, charged with being the leader of his assailants. The Jury acquitted the prisoner. __________________________________________________________________ *** http://www.archive.org/stream/NYTimes_nov15_30_1876/NYTimes_nov15_30_1876_djvu.txt
