COOGAN story

appearing in "Brooklyn Eagle" (23 DEC 1890):

During an altercation on Broadway, West New Brighton, S. I.
[Staten Island], last night, between Henry Coogan, a saloon
keeper, and Henry Burns, a peddler, Coogan drew a revolver
and fired a shot at Burns.  The bullet entered the right side
of Burns' abdomen, inflicting a slight flesh wound.  Burns was
removed to the Smith infirmary.  Coogan, who is 40 years old,
was locked up at the West New Brighton police station for a
hearing before Justice Powers.
