Co., 1931) [PAGES 353-354]: ALBERT JOSEPH COOGAN In the practice of law, the same profession in which his honored father engaged, Albert J. Coogan has gained a place of well merited repute in San Francisco. He is a son of the late T. C. and Mary (Watson) Coogan, and was born in Oakland, California, December 8, 1883. Both of the parents were born in Connecticut and came to California in the year 1879. The father was an attorney, and practiced successfully in San Francisco until his death in 1921. He had served in the state senate of Connecticut before coming to the west coast. His wife is also deceased. Three daughters and one son were born to their marriage. Albert J. Coogan attended the grade and high schools in Oakland, and graduated from the latter in 1902. He then entered the University of California in Berkeley and completed his studies in 1906 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Next he took up the study of law in the Hastings College of Law, and graduated with the Bachelor of Laws degree. While at Hastings he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was admitted to the California state bar, and then became associated with his father in the practice, which arrange- ment was maintained until the latter's death. He has continued his legal work alone since that time, and has offices now in the Russ building. His methods of conducting the litigation assigned to him have invariably been subject to the most favorable criticism, and his advancement during the years of his practice has been due to his careful attention to the interests of his clients and his unceasing efforts in their behalf. On October 7, 1914, Mr. Coogan was married to Miss Marjorie Emmons, who was born in Alameda, a daughter of G. U. Emmons and Harriet A. Emmons. She graduated from Stanford University in 1913. Two children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Coogan, namely: Kathleen and Emmons. The family residence is situated at 44 Crest road in Piedmont. Mr. Coogan is a republican in politics, and a member of the Claremont Country Club, the Athenian Club, the Mount Diablo Country Club, the Bohemian Club, the Commonwealth Club, and the San Francisco Commercial Club. Golf has been his favorite recreation. ___________________________________________________________________ http://books.google.com
