Research:

This is the family of William Coogan. He was born in Ireland and 
moved to New York City in the mid Nineteenth Century.  After a 
few years in New York, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

One of William's children, Henry Coogan, married a woman named
'Pink' Lyons, who was black but probably of light complexion.
Their children are found in public records classified variously 
as negro, colored, black or mulatto.

Another of William's children, Richard Coogan, moved to 
Montgomery County, PA.  His family lived in the Bryn Mawr area 
for the next century.  

A branch of this family now lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

This line could be connected with another family from New York
and Philadelphia.  We are looking into the possibility that
William may have been married twice.

This family has also been found as COOGIN.
