     #294 - Jamie Coogan (Houston, TX)

Research:

This is the family of William Coogan. He was born in Ireland and
emigrated to the United States in the early Nineteenth Century. 
He first settled in New York State, where his son, Daniel Coogan,
was probably born (although some censuses say he was born in 
Ireland).

Daniel later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - probably after
military service during (and immediately after) the US Civil War.
A rejected pension request by Daniel's widow provided many 
details for this line.  It is a sad tale of what happened when 
veterans passed away without proper documentation of 90 days of 
service during the War of Rebellion.

This line could be connected with another family from New York
and Philadelphia.  We are looking into the possibility that
William may have been married twice.

This family has also been found as KOOGAN and COOGEN - and might
have been COGAN.
