Research:

This is the family of John Coogan, a farmer.  He was sometimes 
known as Johnathan.  He was born in Ireland and emigrated to 
Canada in the mid Nineteenth Century.  He settled in Masham 
(Ottawa [AKA Gatineau and Wright] County), Quebec.

Some of his descendants still live in the Province of Quebec 
today but others have spread into Ontario and across the rest of 
Canada.

There is a very good chance that this family is related to a
family from Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland.  Researchers
have found evidence that John Coogan arrived in Ireland with
at least two brothers, Thomas Coogan and Richard Coogan.  The
CRG site has their family tree in the file "castlecomer2.txt".
If this is true, then this group of COOGANs is much larger.

This family has also been found as COGHAN, COOGIN, COAGAN, COUGAN 
and COGAN.
