Research:

This is the family of Joseph Coogan, a farmer.  He was born in
Dublin, Ireland, and emigrated to the United States in the early
Nineteenth Century.  A family story says that Joseph came to 
America "to grow hops for Guinness Beer."

Joseph and his children settled in the Finger Lakes Region of New 
York State, primarily in Cayuga County.   

Some of Joseph's descendants later moved to the Oil City area of 
Venango County, Pennsylvania.  

This family, which often appeared as COGAN, could be related to 
the two other families that lived in Cayuga County between the 
1850s and 1870s.
