Research:

This is the family of James Cogan.  He was born in Ireland and
probably lived in the vicinity of Coolderry, County Monaghan.

James' son, Patrick Cogan, emigrated to the United States in the 
mid Nineteenth Century and settled in Woburn (Middlesex County), 
Massachusetts.

This family was probably always known as COGAN.
