He was born in Ireland and emigrated to the United States in the mid Nineteeth Century. He appears to have settled in western New York and may have even lived in Ontario (Canada) during the 1840s. Henry later settled permanently in Buffalo (Erie County), New York. One of Henry's grand-sons, Henry Jennings Coogan, was born in Buffalo but lived many of his early years abroad. In 1903, while enroute to San Francisco for an Australian and Western Pacific voyage, he stopped in the Reno area of Nevada to take part in the excitement in Goldfield (Gold/Silver Rush ?). He lived most of the rest of his life in Carson City and was active in Nevada politics. Most of the descendants of this family have lived in Chautauqua County near the towns of Dunkirk, Sheridan and Fredonia.
