CRG-Update Email Sent: 17 JUL 2000 01:41:26 EDT *********** COOGAN RESEARCH GROUP - http://members.aol.com/jcoogan266/index.htm Hello- I just returned from a business trip to Washington, DC, where I had an opportunity to visit the Library of Congress. You may not know this, but they have a very extensive collection of genealogy items: you can search for specific surnames and/or town histories. The best thing about the collection is that they have City Directories for most major cities in the US (and a few abroad). For example, there were CDs for Boston for EVERY year between 1861 and 1960! And that was just on microfilm - they have paper and microfiche fopies of earlier CDs. While I was there, I copied some of the directories - you can see them at the "transcriptions" page. I also have uploaded all of the census data that Pat Connor Coogan and I have collected. I am interested in census data that you may have copied - however incomplete it might be. If you have access to city directories in your area, please let me know. Thanks for the many emails about your research success stories - I am happy to hear about them! Many of you have updated your research as well - for those who haven't, visit the "researchers" page. I would like to further recommend the use of the "message board." Remember, it is not just linked to our site - it is a GENFORUM board. That means that people are very likely to stumble across your post while they search for their many other surnames. We have had at least one major success in the group just from the Coogan Family Genealogy Forum. Hope you are all well, Jim Coogan ********
