Notes for: Shirley Finley

Shirley was the daughter of John W. Finley. Her mother passed away when Shirley was about 6 yrs of age. John married Mary Ellen (May) Quinn in 1937, and thus Shirley was her setpdaughter. For a time the family lived in Dormont on Voelker st. then moved into the first floor of the home of Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Mike, Broadhead st., Pittsburgh (Lincoln Hill). Shirley attended Corpus Christi elementary school and later Mt. Alvernia High School, Millvale. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in about 1948. An accomplished artist, she moved to Charleston, S.C. to take care of her father and stayed on there as an artist. Brother Colman Coogan attended her 50th anniversary in 1998 at the Sisters of Mercy, Mt. Mercy, Pittsburgh, PA. Shirley left Charleston in 2002 and at the time of this writing is in residence as a retired person with the Sisters.

Her cousin, Br. Jim Coogan, has been in contact with her on several occasions notably the celebration of her fiftieth and sixtieth anniversaries (last June 11, 2005) at the Mercy convent, 3333 Fifth Ave., Pgh. PA.
